Matt: We are at PAX East. I'm here with Brett, the developer of Lemony Fresh, one of the games integrated with Scent. Brett.
Brett: Hi, what's up? How you doing? Happy to be here. I'm good.
Matt: How did you start creating with OVR?
Brett: Oh, geez. Well, I met you guys at the Global Game Jam in, what was that, February?
Earlier this year? Yeah, so I showed up at the Global Game Jam. My game is called Lemony Fresh, where you play as Tiny Lemon and you clean filthy spaces.
So it seemed, it was too serendipitous to say no to. So I basically implemented the, I spent the weekend putting the tech into my game.
And it was pretty straightforward to implement the actual technology. And it was just such a, like if you see my game, you'll understand it's just such a natural fit for Lemony Fresh specifically.
Matt: Yeah, definitely. And how does it feel to be showcasing your game at a convention like PAX?
Brett: It's very exciting. I'm very happy to be here.
I'm stoked about this. This is Lemony's first foray, basically, publicly. And I just got the Steam page live, whatever, two days ago. Got the trailer up. Every game has that moment where it's the first public.
Exactly. So this is the blossoming. And if you come, lean in closely, it smells floral, the blossoming of this game. That's one of the scents. It's an OVR joke.
Matt: Our floral scent is quite popular today.
I have a few interview questions for you, Brett. They're more fun, rapid fire.
Matt: What is your favorite scent that you've tried from our cassette?
Brett: Ooh, from the cassette. I really love Timber. I actually like a lot of them. I love Timber, and I have to find a way to put it into my game.
It's the Petrichor. OK, so my favorite one that's in my game in Lemony Fresh is Petrichor. Because it's the smell of rain, but it also, like, I used it for a dishwasher.
It just smells wet. Like, your brain just tells you, like, this is wet. So I used Petrichor in the dishwasher, and it worked perfectly, which kind of freaks me out because I didn't feel like that should.
And it's a really lovely scent.
Matt: Nice. What is your favorite game, and what would it smell like?
Brett: Jeez. Okay. I have a lot of favorite games. This is tough. If I just had to pick one off the top of my head, Portal 2.
Oh man, it's such a classic and it kind of does everything. I have a lot of favorite games, but I'll just pick Portal 2 just for the sake of this answer.
What would it smell like?
Oh, I don't know if I would want to smell Portal 2. When the facility is decrepit, it would probably smell swampy.
But when the facility is all fresh and new, I feel like it would smell like a doctor's office. but really tastefully done and very high quality, high class, intense industrial freshness is what I would go with.
And then, of course, for the overgrowth areas, we would have earthiness as well. And when you go through a portal, I feel like it should smell like space, whatever that smells like.
Matt: Steak? Steak? People say steak or burnt steak or something. Space. It smells like steak or something.
Brett: I don't want it to smell like steak. I know. Can we change it?
Matt: All right. One last question.
If there was one smell that would stop you from rage quitting, what would it be?
Brett: The smell of my dog.
Matt: Aw. Yeah. That's a beautiful one. Yeah.
Brett: Thank you.
Matt: Me too, actually. Yeah. Awesome.
Thank you, Brett.
Brett: Thank you. It was a pleasure.
